Argentine Tango Lessons : Stokeinteignhead : Lesson 1
Aim of the lesson:
To teach students that:
Tango is a walking dance that circulates around the room
The Leader is responsible for setting the timing of each movement
To introduce the concepts of:
- walking in time and in double time to the music
- followers never moving unless the leader causes them to move.
- the separation between upper and lower body movements
Things to practice :
Walking:
Walking on the beat and in double time
Walking forwards and backwards, keeping the knees bent and stretching the legs
Maintaining the frame with the arms so that you and your partner remain a constant distance from one another
For Ochos:
Twisting the lower body while keeping the upper body square to the front – knees bent
Stepping forward with the right foot towards the left diagonal and with the left foot towards the right diagonal – pivot on the ball of the foot
Stepping backwards with the right foot toward the left back diagonal and with the left foot towards the right back diagonal – pivot on the ball of the foot
Combining forwards walks and ochos.
