Learn to Tango

Background information about Argentine Tango

Argentine Tango is an intense and sensitive dance which involves communication between two individuals. Unlike many traditional partner dances, Argentine Tango is entirely about improvising with your dance partner in relation to the music. There are no ‘set-routines’ and dancers are able to respond to the music and to the mood that it creates with their partner.

Argentine Tango is as easy to learn as walking. With a sound grounding in technique students can soon improvise and move confidently around the dance-floor.

Ute Scholl

Ute SchollUte Scholl initially studied Ballroom and Latin American dance before discovering Argentine Tango with the help of some of Tango’s and Neo Tango’s leading exponents including Miguel Angel Zotto (from Tango Por Dos), Mora Godoy, Los Ocampo (from Tango Pasion), Sebastian Arce & Mariana Montes and Mariano Chicho Frumboli.

Ute Scholl said ‘It is often said: “You don’t choose the Tango but Tango chooses you”. That’s certainly been the case for us. Both Anna and I fell in love with the music of tango while we were involved with other dance styles. Before long it had taken over almost all of our spare time and we’re delighted to be able to share our passion and enthusiasm for Tango with other people in our local community.”

Anna F Leatherdale

Anna F. LeatherdaleAnna F. Leatherdale was born and brought up in Teignmouth but went away to London and trained in contemporary dance at the Laban Centre, London before moving on to become the Deputy Director of the National Campaign for the Arts.

“After teaching and working in London for so long it’s been wonderful to come back to teach dance in Devon again. Finding the new Village Hall in Stokeinteignhead has made all the difference – it’s one of the best dance spaces that I’ve ever worked in – with a marvellous floor and a beautiful location. We’ve been delighted by the response to our classes earlier in the year and are pleased that we’ve had students aged 12-80 enjoying Argentine Tango after only a matter of weeks.”

Ute and Anna have been teaching and performing Argentine Tango since 2001 and have taught and performed in England, Germany, Austria and Denmark. Highlights include performances at Leeds Town Hall, Stratford Circus in London, The Tango Club in London, the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay and “Die Alte Feuerwache” in Cologne, Germany.
