Introducing Ochos

Learn To TangoAim of the lesson is to introduce dancers to the forward and backward ochos – on the spot and moving.

Warm up exercises
· Walking forwards
· Walking backwards
· Twisting the lower body while keeping the upper body square to the front – knees bent
· Forward ochos
· Backwards ochos

Repeat from last week
Moving from foot to foot to find the starting leg
Walking around the room to the music in time and double time in a double arm or open hold.

Ocho

Partners face each other with leaders elbows tucked in to their waste, hands forward, palms up; followers place their palms downwards on top of the leaders hands. Leaders remain with feet apart and move chest/upper body so that followers take forward ochos on the spot. Leaders make sure you don’t lead your partner outside of your own hip width – followers to keep upper body square to their partners chest.

Leaders (cross basic) step to the same side twice before leading follower into forward or backwards ochos.

Repeat exercise but with backward ochos.

Combination of walks and ochos – for example:
Leader step to the same side twice before leading the follower into four forward ochos on the spot, square the follower up and take four walks forward, lead the follower into four backward ochos; square the follower up and lead a further four walks backwards.
