Aim of the lesson:
To introduce rotation and wide, controlled steps.
Warm up exercises
· Walking forwards
· Walking backwards
· Twisting the lower body while keeping the upper body square to the front – knees bent
· Twisting the upper body keeping the lower body still – legs apart, knees bent
· Rising up on the half toes
· Forward ochos
· Backwards ochos
Repeat from last week
Moving from foot to foot to find the starting leg
Walking around the room to the music in time and double time in a tango hold including forward and backwards ocho variations.
Followers
Learn the footwork for giros – forward ocho, wide open side step, well rotated backwards ocho, wide open side step. Practice rotating round a chair to get the idea of always facing your partner.
Leaders
Learn to use a contra movement of your upper body to initiate the direction that your follower will step in.
Practice giros together, remembering to keep the frame firm, maintain a constant distance between you and followers take reasonable length steps.
Combine ochos, walking and giros – giving yourself time to think between each movement.
